Infinite Regular Neighbourhoods

Anne Scott

Mathematics Institute, The University of Warwick Coventry, Warks

This paper extends the theory of regular neighbourhoods in piecewise linear manifolds to the case of non-compact subspaces. To do this, simplicial collapses in infinite simplicial complexes are investigated. Existence and uniqueness theorems similar to those given by Hudson and Zeeman for compact subspaces are then proved.
