The Spectrum of a Derivation of a C*-Algebra

This paper considers a *-derivation {delta} of a C*-algebra u and shows that its spectrum (as an operator on u) is completely determined by the spectra of the operators an which generate {delta} in each factor representation {pi} of u. Several applications to derivations and automorphisms are given.
