Asymptotic Modifications of Dynamical Semigroups on C*-Algebras

We prove an abstract theorem concerning asymptotic modifications of the generators of certain oneparameter semigroups, and then apply it to semigroups obtained by restricting an automorphism group on a C*-algebra to a C*-subalgebra, by means of a conditional expectation. This enables us to clarify some old difficulties concerning the non-uniqueness of the generators, and to obtain useful connections between the generators obtained and the KMS conditions.
