Let B denote a closed subalgebra of L{infty} containing H{infty}. Let Formula and let QAB = QB {cap} H{infty}. We study ideals in QAB which inherit properties from ideals in QB. We answer the following question. When is a prime ideal in QAB the trace of a prime ideal in QB? We also study a similar question for closed ideals in QAB. Several results about finitely generated ideals are also included in this paper.
